Stuart Ellsmore
Stuart began playing the cornet in the Salvation Army band at Gloucester and it was here that he became a professional musician when he was given a sixpence after performing in a service. His love of orchestral music started when, at the age of 12, he became a member of the Gloucestershire Youth Orchestra where he soon became the principal trumpet and soloist. Further studies took him to the Royal Academy of Music where he was, for two years, principle trumpet in the Chamber Orchestra conducted by Sir Neville Mariner. Since leaving the Academy he has performed as a freelance player with most major orchestras including the LSO, CBSO and the BSO. Stuart has also performed, with his brass group the Cotswold Brass Ensemble, the sound track to a BBC documentary about the Three Choirs Festival; conducted a chamber ensemble in France and appeared as a soloist in Germany, France and Spain. He is teaches both privately and with Gloucestershire Music, and is a founder member of OrchestraWest.
