Orchestra West Lives
A complete collapse of our public funding and a great reduction in private funding has necessitated a reduction in the Orchestra's activities during 2009.
Inadequate funds forced us to abandon three of our twelve concerts this year, sadly including a children's concert, a trip to Yeovil and our Patron's workshop.
However, we know that we are far from alone in our troubles and that we must not let our enterprise founder.
To that end our promoting body, Taunton Music trust, is undertaking an extensive Review in order to present a compelling business plan to potential funding bodies. We think this plan will be ready by the end of 2009 and that we should then be in a good position to 'catch the tide' of a new financial dawn.
In the meantime Orchestra West continues to function, providing an orchestra for other organisation's concerts. Most notable of these is the chamber choir, Amici, and also Taunton Choral Society.
